Digital Short Course Materials

I can analyse the current format of materials and find digital alternatives.

SCOPE

The materials for the Adolescent Counselling course were extensive with the majority on paper. The materials were not environmentally friendly, were labour intensive to produce, and expensive to outsource.

WHAT WAS PRODUCED

For this course, I converted a large binder of paper based materials supplemented by a USB into an Android tablet containing all materials electronically.

MY ROLE

I conceived and implemented the change. I assessed the options for environmental impact and cost effectiveness. This included a review of the budget to assess if Android tablet could be offered for free within the fee structure of the time. I also created a supporting document to induct those students who were not technically proficient into the use of the tablet.

OUTCOME

The tablet was successfully trailed and then advertised and implemented in ongoing course offerings.

Adult Learning Methodology

An aspect of the learning methodology employed was for the student induction to the use of the technology. When designing and using digital learning, the participant needs to feel comfortable and proficient with the technology in order to have a good learning experience and before they can have success with the content.. Frustration can lead to disengagement. I used constructive alignment to scaffold the knowledge, and used screen shots of the tablet for a visual reference.

As part of the assessment of digital learning materials I considered ease of use and accessibility.
